Laser Hair Removal - Electrolysis
Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, the patient who is tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair may welcome permanent laser hair removal.
Lasers produce highly focused, intense beams of light that are absorbed by dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin's surface and converted to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth. Multiple treatments are required for permanent removal of 60-90% of all hair -- the follicle must be "active" at the time of treatment, and not all follicles are active at the same time. Treatments are needle-free and do not require anesthesia. Most patients feel nothing more than a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band. Treatment can be combined with electrolysis (lasertrolysis) if you desire to be 100% hair free.
Stella Barba is a highly skilled Hair Removal Specialist licensed to perform permanent hair removal with electrolysis and lasers. She works closely with the dermatologist to investigate potential medical reasons for excessive hair growth and develops a treatment plan designed specifically for your individual problem (laser, electrolysis or both). Our team utilizes the state of the art StarLux IPL system, a laser that is effective in treating unwanted hair on all skin types, including dark-skinned individuals such as those of Black, Hispanic and Asian descent. To see Stella for a consultation, an appointment with the doctor is not needed. Stella also has Saturday appointments available. To discuss your treatment plan, call Stella for a free consultation.
Electrolysis is the oldest proven method for permanently removing unwanted hair quickly, safely and with little discomfort. It is especially helpful for scattered hair on the face, arms, ears, nose, eyebrows or hands. A tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle, where it delivers radiofrequency energy that heats the hair matrix - the "growth center" - until it is injured and eventually killed. The hair is then removed with forceps. Permanent hair removal is usually achieved after a series of weekly treatments lasting 15 minutes to an hour.
Each individual's level of comfort during treatment varies. Some sensation will be felt, depending on the sensitivity of the individual receiving treatment. Topical anesthetic creams are available for those individuals who are extremely sensitive. Your particular concerns can be discussed with Stella Barba during a consultation. A consultation will help to decide what treatment is best for you: electrolysis, lasers or both.
