Acne Treatment Center

Our facility is dedicated to the comprehensive medical management of teenage and adult acne. Staffed by Dr. Barba and highly trained Acne Therapists, the center only prescribes the most up to date acne medications and treatments.

Our Philosophy
Acne can cause emotional damage to both teenagers and adults. In fact, 10-20% of acne occurs in adults. Our philosophy for treating acne is to provide our patients with the best prescription medications and treatments so that acne gets cleared and scarring is minimized. We aim to teach you how to effectively get your acne under control so that prolonged repetitive visits to the doctor are not necessary.

Initial Visit
During the initial visit a complete medical history will be taken, including a detailed history of previous acne treatments. Dr. Barba will carefully examine the skin using magnification in order to assess the extent and severity of the acne and any associated scarring, pigmentation, and irritation. An individualized treatment plan will be formulated based on all the information that has been gathered and according to your type of acne and skin tolerance. The treatment plan is a "total" skin care plan, and consists of prescription acne medications, moisturizers, medical facials, and chemical peels. An acne therapist will review your treatment protocol, give you written instructions and answer all your questions.

Follow up Visits
Until the acne is mild and well controlled, frequent follow up visits will be arranged in order to assess compliance, tolerance, and efficacy of the treatment. Some visits will be with Dr. Barba, who uses a "hands on" approach and includes one or several acne treatment (s) during each follow-up visit: removal of blackheads, drainage of cysts, gentle chemical peel s or an intralesional injection of a tiny amount of cortisone to make pimples quickly disappear. Other visits will be with Acne Therapists who will carry out any additional prescribed treatments such as light chemical peels to unclog pores, microdermabrasion for mild acne scarring and dark spots, or an hour long Acne Medi-Facial to gently exfoliate and unclog pores Once you become a registered patient of our Center, highly trained staff are available to answer any questions that may arise. As your condition improves, your visits to the acne clinic will become less frequent, until you eventually reach complete control.

Note: Some acne treatments at our Acne Treatment Center will not be covered by insurance and will be an out of pocket expense however packages of 4 to 6 treatments are available to keep prices accessible. Please call us for details.

Medications/Acne Skin Care
Both easy to get and hard to find acne medications and skin care are available in our pharmacy at reasonable prices. The price is often very close to the price of your prescription plan co-payment. When possible we will try to incorporate some medications covered by your prescription plan.

Acne treatments with Levulan Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is the most recent advance in acne therapy and is available at our center. Photodynamic acne therapy involves the application of Levulan to the skin where it is absorbed specifically by overactive oil glands and the bacteria responsible for acne. Light from a laser activates the Levulan solution to kill bacteria and shrink the oil glands, resulting in a significant improvement in moderate to severe cystic acne, often without the use of systemic medications! Levulan therapy is safe and can even work in patients who have failed other therapies.

Skincare Boutique/ Pharmacy

We strive to make your visit with us convenient and offer a licensed pharmacy and fully stocked skincare boutique onsite. Dr. Barba has been very selective in choosing only the highest quality products that have been thoroughly researched and tested to provide significant benefits to your skin. In fact, most of our skincare products are only available in a doctors office. If you can't stop by for a refill, call us or fax us your request and we will mail the product to you.
